Picture Not-so-perfect

It has been made perfectly clear that I should not come within 10 feet of a camera.

I mean, behind it, although I will say the post-partum look that I'm sporting may in fact break a lens or two.

Seriously, what happened to all that "water weight" just melting (or peeing) off?

Anyway, I have tried with all my might to get a good picture of my son, but alas, he's already 10 lbs and not looking like much of a newborn and the pictures I have of him are shoddy.

It's embarrassing, really.

I have no idea what to do. I take off his clothes and lay him on the bed and all I get are bad shadows and weird red eyes. And I really want to get some good shots for his birth announcements.

And, of course, my good friend who happens to be a photographer (and shot amazing pics of my daughter for the last two years) lives in Atlanta.

So, I've enlisted the help of Tracey -- my favorite photog and blogger -- to provide some helpful hints and gentle suggestions as to what I need to do to get some good pictures of this child before he turns 18 and is leaving for college.

If you haven't read her blog before, then go over there -- and even better, if you want some good advice on this subject (or photography in general), zip over there now. She's got great suggestions on how to get your older kids involved (read: HIDDEN CANDY = BRILLIANT) and tomorrow she'll be discussing lighting issues and all that other good stuff. Seriously, you can't beat a 2-part tutorial.

Hopefully I'll have some good shots to show off to you next week!

Kristen, I just wanted to mention one quick thing--try laying Drew down in his bassinet right next to a window, and then take his photo with NO flash. The natural light just looks better, and if it's bright enough, it won't matter if he wiggles around. And you won't get the red eyes either.

Kristen - Your so right on both counts. Tracey is one smart cookie and boy is it tricky to get that perfect baby pic. Good luck with Drews. He's adorable. I'm a new blogger so if you have a chance...check out www.MyMoMtra.blogspot.com.

Can't wait to see the pics! It's hard to photograph a wiggly baby.

remind me to send you some of the shitty pictures i've taken of sam. :-)

Oh baby, I hope I can help! ; )
