My husband is a terrible gift giver. He knows it. Which I'm not sure is worse or better. Last year he gave up.
Not the greatest thing for your hugely pregnant wife (no Christmas present, that is). I mean, can you really go wrong with jewelry?
Yes, apparently you can.
I won't tell you about the engagement ring he was going to buy me. Think 1980. And then think about dead cats.
Yeah. It was that sad.
And then there was the black leather jacket from Target that would have been perfect. For my mother-in-law.
The difficult thing about me is that I love to be surprised. Not "hey, you're having a colonoscopy today" kind of surprise. But, you know, a gift that's really cool that you a) didn't pick out b) didn't buy yourself c) pick out and put on your list.
But that doesn't generally happen in my house. So this year, we decided no gifts. And honestly, I'd much rather have a night together away from the kids, or hell, even a dinner, or something that we can both enjoy together that won't end up stashed in my closet or sold on ebay.
Yeah. That was a really bad year.

My old neighbor's rule of thumb for his wife was "nothing with a plug." I've found that jewelry works for the short term, but my wife generally doesn't wear it for too long if she's not the one who picked it out. So rule out jewelry and things with plugs...hmm. I KNOW I can't pick out her clothing, so I'm left with taking her on a date, which we haven't done in the 3 years since my daughter was born. *laugh*
This year I might actually have to find a sitter (ours keep graduating, dang it) and get our lazy butts out of the house to an actual, non-plastic-silverware type of restaurant!
Although carpet sweepers don't have plugs, do they?
