I should have known the day my husband "proposed" to me with my ring hidden under a ceramic cereal bowl on our bed. I suppose it could have been worse.
It could have been a plastic tupperware bowl.
Thankfully, I had chosen the ring. If I could find a picture of the ring setting he had picked out on his own (oh wait, let me just take a pic of my mother-in-law's setting), you would understand why I did the choosing. Think yellow gold lightening bolt with diamond slapped in the middle.
Wait. Don't think that. You might vurp a little.
Clearly, when it comes to gift giving, my husband is the pits. He certainly means well, with his hard bra cupped two sizes too big Target lingerie. And a leather jacket that I swear my own mother would not even wear.
But he just doesn't have the knack.
So his solution is that he just doesn't get me anything at all. Word to the dads: THAT IS NEVER A GOOD OPTION. EVER.
Now you would think that since I run a shopping sites with items that I would truly love, it would be easy. But he gets overwhelmed and doesn't know what to do and then just decides to not get anything. But a card. That he signs.
Another word to dads: NEVER JUST SIGN THE CARD.
So, when Cole and Kate from GetInHerHead.com approached Parent Bloggers to help them promote their new site, I was intrigued. Their free service entails you signing up, entering your sizes (praise the lord), your preferences, even your EXACT CHOICES WITH URL, and then including your special dates -- birthdays and anniversaries in particular.
Then they send out reminders with your choices listed. You can even put in the babysitter info so if your spouse decides he wants to schedule an impromptu date night, he can do it all on his own.
But I wonder if some folks will think that this takes away from the magic of gift giving. I mean, clearly the element of surprise is still there, you just narrow down the choices for your helpless spouse. And, if you have a kick ass gift giving spouse, then you wouldn't sign up for the service.
So what do you think? Share your thoughts (or better PICS) anytime this weekend in a post on your own blog (sorry, not just in comments!) and be entered to win a $250 gc to the spa of your choice. Check the PBN link for more details on how to participate.

That sounds like an awesome service. I would sign up. My husband is no good in the gift buying area either. I normally just buy the gift myself then give it to him to wrap. Picking a few items for him to choose from would be better!

That sounds awesome! I will HAVE to sign up for this, considering my husband has asked for a specific written wish list for all holidays from now on. Why? Oh, because for about a month before Christmas I told him (not hinted, TOLD him) practically every day that I wanted the newest Harry Potter movie and Season 4 of One Tree Hill on DVD. What did I get? Hairspray and The OC.
Poor thing. He was so, so close.

We signed up -- his idea -- and now I'm waiting to see if there are results. Unfortunately my birthday (in which he left town for work!) was last month so I'll have to wait a while!

You know, after a few failures, we guys just don't try quite as hard. While it seems a bit odd to think about, if the ladies in our lives would simply give us a list of what would make them happy, it'll get done (as long as we can actually accomplish it.)
Alison Armstrong of UnderstandMen.com talks about this really well. She was even nice enough to do an interview for us and answer this exact question.
Thanks for the great review. I hope you all enjoy the service! (And, I'm happy you like the sizes - I was sick of using my hands to describe a cup size....)
